Hillcrest Memorial Park and Monument Company is locally owned and operated by Texarkana Funeral Home, a company that has been a part of the community for decades and is dedicated to all aspects of funeral and cemetery care. Texarkana Funeral Home began in the days when the downtown area was the thriving heart of the city. The downtown Federal Building was only four years old, and what we now know as the Perot Theater was referred to as the Saenger Theater. The year was 1937, and Howard Fuqua, along with Harry L. Everett, established Texarkana Funeral Home on 6th and Main Streets in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Downtown Texarkana. The staff worked hard to establish a reputation built on trust, resulting in more and more families choosing Texarkana Funeral Home to guide them through their time of need.
In December 1966, Texarkana Funeral Home opened a new, larger facility on Texas Boulevard. Thomas H. Fuqua Jr. joined the team, and with the help of Robert D. Cowley Jr., the Fuqua and Everett families continued to provide the area with sound advice and caring service at times of personal loss. Soon, Texarkana Funeral Home became the largest funeral home in the Four States Region.
The original cemetery—what is now Hillcrest Memorial Park—was established on July 1, 1929, and is today one of the Texarkana area's most distinguished landmarks. The original 15 acres have been expanded and now cover 39 acres of gently rolling hills and native shade trees. Hillcrest is the resting place of U.S. Senators, Congressmen, local dignitaries, and people from all walks of life.
The cemetery became a Perpetual Care cemetery in 1946 and is operated under the State Banking Laws of Texas. Perpetual care means family members will always know the cemetery and grave sites are cared for with loving attention. Hillcrest has been home-owned and operated since it was first established. Texarkana Funeral Home, Inc. purchased the facility in 1977. There are now over 7,600 burials in the cemetery.
Hillcrest offers complete monument service, burial space, mausoleum space, and options for the burial of cremains.
